New(ish) to sail - Are 125's a good place to start?
Hey, i am interested in getting back into sailing after a loooooong break. I have been on the hunt for a boat and i have narrowed it down to a couple, a 125 is one of them.

My main question is - is this suitable for single handed sailing? (minus spinnaker) My son wont be old enough for a sail for a bit yet. So in the mean time i thought i would catch up a bit on sailing etc etc.

Cheers

depending on your weight, experience and the wind strength, it is definately do-able. what boat are you after?

Im looking at a boat called Scallywag, which is based at the Dobroyd Sailing Club.

As far as sailing goes, its more of a recreational thing atm. In the future when my son grows up a bit, things may change.

Cheers

Thanks for the encouragement.

Being in Newcastle, i havent found any clubs close by (yet) that sail the 125. There should be somewhere on Lake Macquarie though.

Cheers

Hello Alex

We have a number of 125s sailing out the South Lake Macquarie sailing club which is near Morisset. We also have a number of young kids learning to sail in smaller boats until they get big enough to sail on the 125s. What size was your son? My current crew is 11 and weighs around 36kg and really likes the 125. They are a good intermediate class to sail and teach younger ones.

My son wont be suitable to sail for a couple of years yet.

If im in Newcastle long enough, i will have to make my way down to the club Luke mentioned and have a look. When does the sailing season start down that way? Im going to have to learn the ins and outs of the boat (yet to even see the boat).

Does anyone know the boat i mentioned above?

Cheers

Alex
