Automotive Paint
Hi,

I was wondering whether it is advisable to paint a wooden 125 with automotive paint...

I was thinking about the wood flexing without the paint and the paint then cracking and also whether automotive 2pak paint would last in salt water...

Thanks,

Re: Automotive Paint
Thanks Will,

Although, I heard that autopaint doesnt flex with the wood so it cracks...

Has anyone had experience with that?

Should is be coating it with some sort of epoxy first?

Thanks,

Re: Automotive Paint
Michael - a timber boat has far too much flex for a 2 pak application unless you have glassed (sheathed) over the timber. Most of the newer fibreglass or foam sandwich boats that have very stiff hulls use 2 pak paint which doesn't degrade in salt water. I would suggest you look at a 1 pak epoxy product that can be brushed, rolled or sprayed on. Your local chandlery should have stock of these products....
