showcasing the 125's
I think the 125 is not showcased and promoted enough in SA (only at 1 metro club) and with the affordabillity of buying a 125 we should be showcasing this fine boat around more clubs in SA. Speaking to a lot of families they are looking for a affordable and fun boat to sail as the sport of sailing is getting way to expensive. By having a early season 3 race traveler series we might be able to grow the class at more clubs and get the 125 back to being the boat to sail. does anyone aggree, any comments.

Re: showcasing the 125's
Hi Jim
Not from SA here, (WA here) but am glad to see some thought going into promoting 125s over there.
We have seen huge growth in the Sabre class in WA and this is due to the focus of the low cost, low pressure/not elite sailing experience. The 125 follows similar lines with the added bonus of involving all family members...not just sailing for Juniors. The rise of the Masters/Returning Sailors is a big factor and is a phenomenon that rivals Junior takeup of sailing....in fact Yachting WA in their strategic plan have highlighted this niche as a focus for them.
One of the challenges is to remind clubs that the 125 is still around as an option and that the boats have moved with times yet remain relatively economical.
Here in WA we are challenged by the same things as in other States but the key seems to be getting boats together (ideally 10 plus) at events as well as promotional work through clubs and media.
With the Olympics shortly to hit the TV, and Australia likely to go well in a few classes, people will take some extra interest in sailing as a sport, so there are some additional oportunities to come I would think.
Good luck and I hope to see SA host a great Nationals in a couple of years.

Re: showcasing the 125's
Great feedback and comments Andrew. Your comment "focus of the low cost, low pressure/not elite sailing experience" is the key. Over here SA its all about High Pressure, elite, lots of money to get a great boat sailing. The fun and affordability has been taken out of sailing. People just need to get motivated as the 125 Australia wide has a great oppertunity. Jim

Re: showcasing the 125's
Hi Criss, When the association have a meeting I am going to try to bring it up. We cant grow and improve the class if the only place that sailes 125s is Largs. The association has a great oppertunity to showcase the class as a very non-expencive fun boat to sail. There are a lot of people who want to sail but cant because of the costs.
