Bungs - how big and where to position
I'm building a timber boat and have reached the stage where the decking can go into place.

The instructions say first to drill the holes for the drain bungs, but do not say exactly where they should go, other than meas.2, which I couldn't find, and that the bow tank should drain into the one alongside the mast understep.

Any help on this much appreciated.

Re: Bungs - how big and where to position
Hi Brian

I think what your referring to is the bung positions between the forward and the two under mast bouyancy tanks?
The best spot to put these would be low down in the corners each side of the under mast stiffener. That way any water that gets into the forward/bow tank can be drained out. As for size, I am not sure it matters so long as you can seal/bung it up. There are commercial screw in type bungs available but this can be done with rubber etc.
What State are you in so we can direct some local help your way?

Cheers
Andrew

Hi Andrew, thanks for the info, it's as I thought - just wanted to be sure before putting on the decking.

This would be Brian in Paris, France.
Since the building instructions were written, most 125er's access the buoyancy tanks via inspection hatches. It is easy to remove any water ingress with a sponge and ventilation is better in storage - leave them open.

Hi Don, yes, you're right.

That makes life considerably easier, thanks for the info.
