2012/13 Nationals | Does anyone know if NSW is hosting, and if so at which venue, the 2012/13 Nationals?
What about 2013/14??

Re: 2012/13 Nationals | NSW provided a flyer to the competitors at the 2011-12 nationals. They are hosting the 2012-13 event at Lake Macquarie.
Unfortunately my skipper has the flyer so I do not have exact details. I think it was at South Lake Macquarie yacht club and the usual Christmas - New Year period

Re: 2012/13 Nationals | Someone from NSW want to comment? Are 125s still sailed at SLMASC?
Has QLD taken up their option for 2013/14?

Re: 2012/13 Nationals | South Lake Macquarie is hosting the 2012/13 nationals from 27/12/2012 to 05/01/2013 along with the Impulse Nationals. There are still a handfull of 125 sailing at Sunshine.

Re: 2012/13 Nationals | Hi folks
I would like to set the seed that we should try to run Nationals over a shorter period of time. The 27th of Dec to the 5th of Jan is a huge commitment especially if you have to travel. Most workers can wangle the Christmas to New Year without to much trouble. More time can be problematic. This Years Nationals were held successfully over a shorter time. The Contenders raced their Nationals from McCrae from the 27th to the 31st. Their presentation dinner lead into their New Years cellerbration - 5 days of solid racing but they managed 9 heats.
I drove my son to Nats this year(from WA)a task that required 3 weeks!! Hopefully WA will be able to container a number of boats next Nationals and we can all fly, either way the extended time commitment is proving to be beyond some.
Cheers
Steve

Re: 2012/13 Nationals | Have to thoroughly agree here.
Those of us with young families would also benefit from a shorter event period as being away would entail less external help at home. Whilst the travel time for WA sailors has always been the same (2 or 3 days each way if you do it safely/responsibly), the private by-road costs have increased significantly. It's almost to the point that a container is a far cheaper option if support and early commitment by others is gained.
We seem to have no issues running 6 or 7 heats for a State title over 3 days at State level, so running over 5 days should be no problem either. Maybe we have gone overboard with the short race formats too.

Re: 2012/13 Nationals | Steve - a valid point about the timing of the nationals - however I feel it is more about timing of the event.. I think that to minimise impact on workers - hold the Nationals over 1 working week if possible. Say start the carnival on a Sunday - and finish on a Saturday. Thus a worker would need to only apply for 1 week(5 days) of annual leave. If a bit more thought went into timing then we could minimise impact in that regard.
Another factor to consider is if the Nationals are being held at a holiday destination - for example Hervey Bay, QLD, families may appreciate a longer carnival with extra lay days so that they can enjoy the local attractions...QLD did this last time the Nationals were held there and the feedback was very positive about the format.
Ultimately it is the host's club decision when and for how long they will run the carnival - I do not think we should dictate this too much to the clubs. It will also depend on whether that host club is having to run any other class National titles at the same time.
I agree that thought need to be given to the timing and I urge everyone to have their say on this forum and lets no rush into any decisions without proper thought.

Re: 2012/13 Nationals | All valid points here but I would have to agree with Jenny. If the champoinships are being held at a holiday destination then you would want to make the most of it. Travelling time is always going to be an issue regardless of the venue for the titles and even more so for or friends from the west travelling to the east coast and vice versa.
It is not always going to be possible for everyone to attend titles, so maybe we could consider the possibility of having boats available for charter. I know the QLD association has (if memory serves) 1 or 2 association boats.
What about the other state associations?
And besides, doesn't everyone want to see our numbers grow.
